NEW YORK, NY, United States (UPI) -- Andy Warhol`s 'Pepper Pot,' a pop art depiction of a Campbell`s soup can, has sold at a New York auction for $11.8 million.
The 1962 work titled 'Small Torn Campbell`s Soup Can (Pepper Pot)' was among 91 pieces on the block at Christie`s auction house Tuesday night, The New York Post reported Wednesday.
The work had been expected to go for between $10 million and $15 million.
An untitled abstract by Willem de Kooning sold for $10.1 million and was among 83 sales that garnered an estimated $143.2 million for Christie`s, the Post said.
Rival auction house Sotheby`s was conducting its contemporary auction Wednesday night. Among its prize items were a $20 million piece by Roy Lichtenstein, a Warhol illustration of a dollar and another de Kooning estimated to be worth $8.5 million.
