James Roybal
Roybal Paintings, Roybal Art & His Biography

James Roybal, Roybal Paintings, Roybal Art & His Biography. James Roybal is a modern day eclectic artist, he first cast bronze at school aged 12 under the tutelage of a dedicated teacher. Participating in The New Mexico Arts Fair as a teenager and thanks to art scholarships,James Roybal was then to further study art at local and State University. Since then James Roybal has exhibited at countless art fairs and exhibitions collecting many awards for both sculptures and paintings alike.  Excelling in both painting and sculpting in college, for more than 25 years, James Roybal has concentrated on sculpting in bronze and marble, as a man who enjoys life to the full he modestly or pretentiously declares that he is only painting and drawing for his own pleasure. Either way his painting style is certainly distinctive and he shows a great confidence in his renditions of landscapes of his native New Mexico. James Roybal gives a sense of exploring new sensory horizons. Since studying with renowned pastel and oil painter Albert Handel in 1995, James decided to devote more time and energy to his painting. James says, "I felt at ease the first time I was painting; it was like coming home." Now James is looking forward to painting and sculpting. James James Roybal remarks he is always looking for new challenges, in bronze and painting. Not searching for his own recognizable style a particular style can be limiting. However like all artists he clearly does have a painting style but probably feels freer to be in denial of it. More important, he says he hopes to grow with subtle maturity. Painting has opened new horizons for me."

An eclectic artist, James Roybal

James Roybal an eclectic artist of the modern day first cast bronze at school aged 12 under the tutelage of a dedicated teacher. Participating in The New Mexico Arts Fair as a teenager and thanks to art scholarships, James Roybal was then to stretch-out at local and State University. James Roybal furthered his foundry education working and managing in fine art foundries for 6 years, until in 1983, he became a full time artist. Since then James Roybal has exhibited at countless Art fairs and exhibitions collecting many awards for both scultures and paintings alike, along the way.

His painting and sculpting

James Roybal feels he is exploring new horizons. Excelling in both painting and sculpting in college, for more than 25 years, James Roybal has concentrated on sculpting in bronze and marble, he modestly or disingenuously declares that he is only painting and drawing for his own pleasure. Since studying with renowned pastel and oil painter Albert Handel in 1995, James Roybal decided to devote more time and energy to his painting. James Roybal says, "I felt at ease the first time I tried pastel; it was like coming home." Now James is looking forward to painting and sculpting.

James Roybal remarks he is always looking for new challenges, in bronze and painting. Not searching for his own recognizable style a particular style can be limiting. However like all artists he clearly does have a style but probably feels freer to be in denial of it. More important, he says he hopes to grow with subtle maturity. There is always another level to obtain, new understanding of structure, form, the use of color, light and shadow. Each painting brings new challenges and new ways of seeing. Painting has opened new horizons for me."
